The Magic Lantern & Rachael Dadd

Hectic Eclectic Records are delighted to invite you to the Bristol launch party for the much anticipated release of The Magic Lantern’s third full length LP - ‘To The Islands’ on 4 November at Cafe Kino.

The Magic Lantern is the musical moniker of Jamie Doe, an artist dedicated to remedying the anxiety and fear present in everyone. Written following a tumultuous journey to his childhood home in Australia after nearly 10 years away, ‘To The Islands’ explores memory and hope in a world of near constant uncertainty.

Musically the record mirrors this exploration, drawing on a wide range of sounds and textures, from afro-beat grooves, to solo piano, string quintet lyricism to narcotic late night saxophone jams, all united by Jamie’s instantly recognisable voice, enquiring mind and inimitable song-writing style. ‘To This Islands’ promises to be his most ambitious musical statement to date.

Support comes from the unique and beautiful sounds of folk multi-instrumentalist Rachael Dadd. Living half her time as a traveling musician in Japan, witnessing how other people create things, connecting with other cultures and landscapes; all this is a furnace for Rachael Dadd`s innovative song writing.

With a string of releases in the UK, EU and Japan including her highly acclaimed previous album ‘We Resonateʼ, Rachael is making her 6th and most collaborative album yet. It's her first full band studio album and sees her collaborating with Jim Barr of Portishead, Marcus Hamblett (James Holden/ Laura Marling/ Bears Den), Emma Gatrill (Matthew and the Atlas, Sons of Noel and Adrian) and drummer Rob Pemberton (Low Chimes, Emily Barker).
