The Grey Area presents an evening of ambient music from Bristol based artists.
We'll provide the musicians. We'll provide places to sit. We'll provide a safe space for all.
We only ask for your silence during the performances.
Born in London to mixed Indian/British heritage, trained in cello at The Centre for Young Musicians & Morley College then philosophy at Durham University, now based in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Recent work is a rich combination of field recordings, adept loop based cello compositions & atmospheric improvisations that explore the rich sonic possibilities of the cello through a host of treatments & effects chains. From droning stillness & devastating harmonic simplicity to the abstract microtonal atmospheres, his work recalls post classical work from greats such as A Silver Mt Zion at their most plaintive, & Stars of The Lid at their most majestic.
"The leading voice of McCorry’s cello is an irresistible beam of light in the darkness.”
Tristan Bath, The Quietus
Using loop techniques, synthesizers and guitar, Lucy builds meditative music centred by sometimes-indecipherable vocals. Layers of heavily affected sound form an abstract atmosphere that is accented by moments of clarity, resulting in music that is at once personal as it is universal.
Terence (T-toe / Jilk / Domestic Sound Cupboard) is a bristol based occasional music project. Electroacoustic. Textured. Multi-layered. Terence is joined by Jon (Now Sleep / Jilk) for their second improvised live performance.
Sean is a Bristol based Experimental Sound Artist, whose soundscapes incoporate Ambient, Drone, Noise, and Neo-classical tendencies. His latest work, ‘Tapesleep’, is a reflection on sleep, formed from recording acoustic instruments, and mechanical noise to distorted, warped, and affected cassettes. His work aims to create harmonic and immersive moments for reflection.
All profits will be split between the artists. The new price of £7 is the total price, including the processing fee. The slight price increase is to allow our event to be able to pay our artists the money they deserve. It is not an attempt to turn a profit.
If you, or someone you know, creates ambient/drone/soundscape music and would like to be considered for future events please don't hesitate to contact us.
We will strive to ensure equal representation at our shows and as such would love to be pointed in the direction of any local POC, Trans, LGB, non-binary, disabled and female artists who would fit the bill.
